Harper Government Invests in Improvements to White Rock's Community Infrastructure
(firmenpresse) - WHITE ROCK, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/19/12 -- Today, Russ Hiebert, Member of Parliament for South Surrey - White Rock - Cloverdale, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced $115,300 in federal funding for improvements to the White Rock Pier, under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"I am proud to see White Rock benefit from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund, which is a demonstration of our Government's commitment to improving the quality of life here in our community and across Canada' said MP Hiebert. "This investment will help create jobs and growth, and will support the prosperity of our regional economy for years to come."
The White Rock Pier is a treasured landmark that attracts both local residents and visitors to the area. The CIIF funding announced today will help the City of White Rock to upgrade the pier, including the replacement of eleven damaged piles and cross braces. This upgrade will help ensure that the pier remains an iconic feature of the White Rock landscape for years to come.
"We are pleased to accept this funding towards our pier upgrade project," said White Rock Mayor Wayne Baldwin. "The White Rock Pier is a National Historic Site, a major tourist attraction and a popular recreational structure. This upgrade project will help us improve public safety and ensure the continued use of our beautiful pier."
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
