(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 10/19/12 -- This document corrects and replaces the statement that was sent today at 12:07 PM ET.

The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, issued the following statement today on the arrest of Giorgio Cote on October 16 in the Toronto area. Mr. Cote is featured on the "Wanted by the CBSA" list.

CBSA officers with the Immigration Task Force (ITF) in the GTA Region, in conjunction with the Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET) from Niagara Falls, made the arrest.

"This individual is inadmissible to Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, on grounds of organized criminality.

I commend the Canada Border Services Agency officers and members of the Integrated Border Enforcement Team including RCMP officers, for their vigilance in helping keep our streets and communities safe from those who come to this country and commit crimes. With this, and other arrests from the CBSA Wanted list, our government is sending a clear message to criminals that we will neither tolerate this type of activity, nor welcome this kind of individual into our society."

To date, Canadians have assisted in locating 32 individuals in Canada as a result of the "Wanted by the CBSA" program, which was launched in July 2011. The CBSA has removed 20 of these individuals from Canada. Additionally, five individuals were located abroad.
