(firmenpresse) - IRVINE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/18/12 -- Orange County Business Council took positions and advocated on behalf of dozens of state bills throughout the legislative session. Posted below is a summary of how Orange County's delegation ranks in order of support for OCBC positions on the 29 bills identified during OCBC's "One Voice, Two Capitols" advocacy trip in the Spring of 2012. The adjusted calculation is based upon the number of times a legislator voted with OCBC, divided by the total number of times a legislator was present for a vote.

Of the original 29 bills that were identified for the May 2012 "One Voice, Two Capitols" Advocacy trip, most of the bills opposed by OCBC (just over 80%) were held or failed in committee.

While ten OCBC-supported bills failed in committee, all five OCBC supported bills sent to the Governor were successfully signed into law.

OCBC experienced a high success rate in defeating the SQUIRREL legislation (frivolous and distracting OCBC-opposed bills) at 70%. Additionally, OCBC identified one "Killer Squirrel" as the most damaging to business and was successful in contributing to its defeat in committee.

Ultimately, OCBC advocated on over 50 bills, including some key legislation that developed late in the session. OCBC also leveraged its advocacy efforts by working in coordination with other groups such as Cal Chamber and the Regional Economic Association Leadership Coalition (REAL Coalition) co-chaired by Carl Guardino of Silicon Valley Leadership Group and Lucy Dunn of OCBC.

Please for a list of bills, and for the scorecard, and check the Government Affairs resource tab on for additional information on the bills tracked.
