Broward County Crime Commission to Honor 43 Detectives of the Year & Also the Prosecutor of the Year
(firmenpresse) - FORT LAUDERDALE, FL -- (Marketwire) -- 10/18/12 -- On Thursday, October 18th, the Broward County Crime Commission will do something seldom done... collectively honor 43 detectives from 40 law enforcement agencies in Broward County, at the Deerfield Beach Hilton, in Deerfield Beach, Florida.
"Although there are many Officer of the Year Awards, and those are equally important, very rarely are Detectives honored as a whole," stated Crime Commission President, James DePelisi. He went on to say, "All the popular television shows and action movies are detective based, but how often are the real detectives lauded? We just had to do this event."
The Broward County Crime Commission will also honor Maria Schneider as the Broward County Prosecutor of the Year, as introduced by Broward State Attorney Mike Satz. Ms. Schneider is the Assistant State Attorney in Charge of the Juvenile Division for the 17th Judicial Circuit of Florida.
US Attorney Wilfredo Ferrer, from the Southern District of Florida, will be the Keynote Speaker for the evening, as introduced by Broward Sheriff's Office Sheriff Al Lamberti.
Brian Walsh of Wings Plus fame will be honored with the Crime Commission Thomas A. Magill Community Service Award, as presented by Coral Springs Commissioner Vince Boccard and Coral Springs Civic Leader Daniel Gonzalez. Crime Commission President James DePelisi stated, "It seems the entire city of Coral Springs is very community oriented. This a tribute to not only the great leadership of Commissioner Boccard, but also the active participation of involved citizens such as Dan Gonzalez and concerned community oriented people such as Brian Walsh."
The Thomas A Magill Award is in tribute to former Hallandale Beach Police Chief Tom Magill who passed away in 2010. James DePelisi stated: "Tom was a special guy; not many like him in the world today." Among the great community things that Magill did, was create the city's first Police Athletic League (PAL). The award will first be ordained and given to the Magill Family, and then presented to Brian Walsh.
The Broward County Crime Commission is a 36 year old state chartered office in support of public safety on behalf of law-abiding citizens.
