(firmenpresse) - COLUMBUS, OH -- (Marketwire) -- 10/16/12 -- has won three indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contracts to support the United States Department of Transportation's (DOT) Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) for potentially the next five years. The contracts have a ceiling value of more than $115 million during that time. Experts from Battelle have been working on the Highway Administration's Office of Operations projects for the past decade and view the three recomplete wins as evidence of results completed in superior fashion. "These new contract wins not only allow us to continue to do important work for the Department of Transportation, they allow us to bring the best and brightest at Battelle to work on important transportation issues," said Deepak Gopalakrishna, IDIQ Program Manager for Battelle's Critical Infrastructure Transportation Operations Division.

The three contracts supporting the FHWA are broken down as follows:

Battelle experts and others will develop new applications and approaches to transform mobility and safety using new technology.

*As much as $33,658,663 for support services relating to transportation management and operations. This work addresses all strategies to address recurring and non-recurring traffic congestion problems and improving driver mobility and safety without building new roads and highways.

*As much as $12,193,622 for traffic incident and emergency management. This work will develop methods for recovering from roadway disasters, reducing their impacts, developing performance measurements and improving coordination between the DOT and law enforcement and emergency personnel.
