Charleston Plastic Surgeon Celebrates National BRA Day

The nationwide event will be held on October 17, 2012, for which the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) has selected recording artist Jewel as the official spokesperson. Dr. Kalus says he is excited to recognize the trials and triumphs of those women and their families affected by cancer, and hopes to do his part by continuing to provide patients with compassionate care as well as the most advanced reconstructive procedures.
Organized as a day of activism across the world, this year's BRA Day is the first to be celebrated in the U.S. and focuses on patient awareness, education, and access to post-mastectomy . The international awareness day combines the efforts of ASPS, the Plastic Surgery Foundation, breast cancer support groups, and medical professionals directly involved in the treatment of breast cancer. Dr. Kalus says he is honored to be a part of the community of supporters dedicated to helping breast cancer patients find the care they deserve.
"Unfortunately, it has been shown that even today, far too many women faced with the diagnosis of breast cancer are still lacking the necessary information regarding breast reconstruction options," says Dr. Kalus. "BRA Day is a terrific first step toward calling attention to this problem and helps women understand that there are resources available to them to make educated decisions about what is best for them."
Over the past few years, Dr. Kalus says modern innovations in breast reconstruction techniques have allowed more and more patients to heighten their self-esteem and restore their sense of womanhood.
