One of Canada's Best Known Trophies on Display from October 21 to 24

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 10/15/12 -- On the occasion of the centennial of the Canadian Football League's (CFL®) Grey Cup, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will welcome the Grey Cup to Rideau Hall on Sunday, October 21, 2012. The official residence of the governor general of Canada will be the Cup's first destination in the National Capital Region.

"I'm honoured to welcome to Rideau Hall the trophy first donated by my predecessor, Earl Grey, which is a symbol of excellence awarded to the best Canadian professional football team. This year, as we mark the 100th Grey Cup Championship Game, there is nothing quite like a homecoming, bringing the Cup to Rideau Hall, to underline this milestone in the history of the CFL. Sharon and I are inviting all Canadians to come and see it on display," said His Excellency.

Public Viewing Schedule of the Grey Cup

The public will have the opportunity to view the trophy, which will be on display inside the Residence on:

About the Grey Cup®

In 1909, governor general Earl Grey donated a trophy for the Rugby Football Championship of Canada. The trophy, which subsequently became known as the Grey Cup, was originally open only to teams that were registered with the Canada Rugby Union. By this time, Canadian football had become markedly different from the rugby football from which it developed. Over time, the Grey Cup became the property of the CFL, which had evolved into a professional football league.

About the Canadian Football League™

The CFL is our league. The Grey Cup is Canada's national championship and the largest annual single sporting event. The CFL is preparing for the 100th Grey Cup in 2012. The celebration will span the country and culminate in a tremendous festival and game in Toronto this November. Canadians are invited to be a part of it. For more information about the CFL, visit .
