Courtyard San Diego Oceanside Teams Up for Kids First Initiative

As a sponsor, this , along with the neighboring Residence Inn, provides funding for school leadership training on the 8 Keys of Excellence and works with the Oceanside Unified School District (OUSD) to ensure the Keys are properly implemented into schools.
The one-of-a-kind initiative kicked off with a student-centered rally and performances on Friday, October 5 close to this . Focusing on character education and designed to enhance the district's quest to educate the whole child, Kids First aims to bring about positive change on 23 OUSD campuses and in the Oceanside community. According to Superintendent Larry Perondi, the goal of the initiative is for students to pursue excellence in every aspect of their lives 365 days a year.
"The complete and total education of students must extend beyond academics and the classroom walls," Perondi says. "Kids First will help build character in our students, staff and community. It's all about developing a culture that will highlight and focus on the positive."
As a central theme of the Kids First initiative, the district will incorporate Quantum Learning's "8 Keys of Excellence," a character-driven curriculum designed to create a common language between students, teachers, staff and parents. Each of the 8 Keys will be designated as a theme for one month of the current school year. Quantum Learning is a research-based educational organization working to enhance student behavior and teacher excellence.
