Minister Toews Statement on Recent Arrest and Expansion of the "Wanted by the CBSA" List
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 09/28/12 -- The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, commended the officers of the RCMP and the CBSA from the Immigration Task Force in Toronto, on the arrest yesterday of Patrick Octaves De Florimonte. He also added his support for the addition of new names to the Canada Border Services Agency's "Wanted by the CBSA" list.
"The apprehended individual is inadmissible to Canada pursuant to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, on grounds of serious criminality. His criminal history includes convictions for trafficking a controlled substance, possession for the purpose of trafficking and obstructing a peace officer in Canada. I commend our law enforcement officers for arresting this individual."
The 'Wanted by the CBSA' list, launched in July 2011, has been a very effective tool in locating individuals wanted for removal from Canada. Today, five additional names have been added to the list, and so far, 30 individuals have been located in Canada and an additional five abroad. Our government is committed to locating and removing individuals who threaten the safety of our citizens and communities.
With the assistance of Canadians, we will continue to send the message to those who try to evade justice that Canada offers no safe haven to those who abuse our laws."
