Minister Valcourt Declares Canada's Aerospace and Defence Industry Is Key to National Security and the Economy
(firmenpresse) - MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwire) -- 09/28/12 -- Speaking at the Aero Montreal Global Supply Chain Summit, the Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Associate Minister of National Defence, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency) (La Francophonie) and M.P. for Madawaska-Restigouche today highlighted the importance of the aerospace and defence industry in the Canadian economy.
"Our Government is committed to the sound management of taxpayer's money and we have to make absolutely sure that defence acquisition is timely, cost-effective and transparent," said Minister Valcourt. "We will continue to look for ways to improve the system to help Canadian companies access the maximum benefit from our defence procurements."
Focused on maximizing job creation, the Government continues to work to improve the collaboration with industry throughout the defence acquisition process, from cutting red tape to improvements to Canada's Industrial and Regional Benefits strategy (IRBs).
"Altogether, sixty major Government of Canada procurement projects are stimulating over $22 billion in regional economic activity across the country," said Minister Valcourt. "It is truly this world-class, Canada-wide public-private coalition that makes our country a global technology leader in aerospace."
Speaking to a gathering of business leaders in the field of aerospace, Minister Valcourt also highlighted the strength of the aerospace industry in Quebec, particularly in the summit's host city, Montreal.
