Deloitte People Across Canada Put Office Duties Aside to Volunteer
Deloitte Demonstrates Commitment to Communities in Annual Impact Day
(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 09/28/12 -- Today more than 8,000 Deloitte professionals in Canada will have the opportunity to take part in Impact Day (), a firm-wide day of volunteer service that encourages everyone to set aside their office duties to volunteer for a non-profit organization and support the communities in which they work and live. A note () has gone up on the Deloitte home page - today's equivalent to the office door - to inform visitors that Deloitte's professionals are taking part in one of 500 Impact Day projects from coast to coast.
This marks Deloitte's eighth annual Impact Day in Canada when Deloitte volunteers will participate in a variety of projects that include both knowledge-based and traditional "hands-on" projects like painting, landscaping and renovating that are planned by Deloitte offices across the country. With a greater focus on leveraging the intellectual capital of its professionals, the people of Deloitte will also take part in volunteer activities that include mentoring job seekers, leading workshops on financial literacy, assisting with proposal and strategy development, and providing advice through the Deloitte Charity Think-Tank program.
The Deloitte Charity Think-Tank program invites non-profit organizations to Deloitte offices across Canada on Impact Day. Participating charities present two or three of its most pressing organizational challenges to a group of Deloitte volunteers who will propose an action plan on how to overcome the challenge. This year, the Deloitte Charity Think-Tank will work with a single national partner in locations across the country, by inviting in regional branches of the United Way.
"Impact Day provides skills development opportunities for our people by allowing them to undertake new challenges in their volunteer projects," said Leila Fenc, Director, Corporate Responsibility at Deloitte. "It is one example of the firm's commitment to corporate social responsibility and ignites a spirit of volunteering that is demonstrated in the way that we apply our skills to benefit society as a whole."
New to Impact Day this year is Double Your Impact which is designed to support a culture of volunteering that extends the life of Impact Day beyond one day. This component encourages the people of Deloitte to volunteer for an additional day at their Impact Day organization in the coming year.
"One way to create positive social change is to do what we do best every day, which is help organizations address their most complex business problems," said Ken Fredeen, General Counsel and Executive lead for Corporate Responsibility within Deloitte. "These non-profits help make our communities stronger and we are thrilled to support the important work that they do."
More than 37,000 Deloitte people have participated in close to 3,000 Impact Day projects supporting more than 1,500 organizations and donating more than 300,000 hours since its inception in Canada.
