Governor General to Visit Two Historic Canadian Regiments During his Visit to Montreal
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 09/27/12 -- His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, will attend events to be hosted by The Canadian Grenadier Guards and The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada, during a visit to Montreal, Quebec, on Saturday, September 29, 2012.
"As commander-in-chief, I will be meeting with members of The Canadian Grenadier Guards and The Black Watch Regiment," said His Excellency. "Both regiments are known for their historical military contributions that helped shape our country as we know it today. I'm looking forward to the opening of the 100-year-old time capsule, which promises to reveal great historical facts about the Canadian Grenadier Guards, and to attend celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the Black Watch."

Saturday, September 29
11 a.m.
Unveiling of Cornerstone and Opening of 100-Year-Old Time Capsule at The Canadian Grenadier Guards Armoury
As colonel of the Regiment, His Excellency will participate in the opening of a 100-year-old time capsule discovered during the restoration of the building in December 2011. He will also address the Regiment, unveil the Armoury's cornerstone (the original was laid 99 years ago), and plant the first commemorative tree located in front of the building. In addition, His Excellency will tour the Regiment's museum where he will have the opportunity to meet with family members of Private John Francis Young, who served with the 87th Canadian Grenadier Guards Battalion and was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions during WWI, as well as view this military decoration on display.

150th Black Watch Anniversary Parade
His Excellency will attend the Black Watch's 150th anniversary parade, during which he will deliver a speech, as well as conduct the inspection of the guard of honour.

Official Designation of Black Watch Armoury as National Historic Site
Joined by the Honourable Peter Kent, Canada's Environment Minister and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, and in the presence of the Regiment's members and their families, the Governor General will unveil a plaque designating the Black Watch Armoury a National Historic Site. The Governor General will deliver a speech on this special occasion.
