NutraCea Processes Rice Bran Into Higher Value Products Including Rice Bran Oil

(firmenpresse) - SCOTTSDALE, AZ -- (Marketwire) -- 09/27/12 -- NutraCea (OTCQB: NTRZ), a global leader in the production and marketing of value added products derived from rice bran, today highlighted a new study presented by a team of scientists at the American Heart Association's High Blood Pressure Research 2012 Scientific Sessions linking a and sesame oil blend to lower blood pressure and improved cholesterol.

Over a 60 day period, 300 men and women with an average age of 57, with mild to moderately high blood pressure, were tested in New Delhi, India. After the consumption of an 80% rice bran oil and 20% sesame oil blend, the results showed a drop in systolic, maximum, and diastolic, minimum, blood pressure. The study also showed a fall in LDL cholesterol levels, the major cholesterol carrier in your blood, which when there is an excess amount, a buildup of plaque occurs causing slow blood flow to the heart, brain and other organs. The oil blend was comprised of 80% and 20% unrefined sesame oil.

Dr. Devarajan Sankar, lead researcher quoted in the article, stated, "Rice bran oil, like sesame oil, is low in saturated fat and appears to improve a patient's cholesterol profile." Dr. Sankar went on further to comment, "Additionally, it (oil blends) may reduce heart disease risk in other ways, including being a substitute for less healthy oils and fats in the diet."

W. John Short, CEO & President of NutraCea, commented, "Rice bran is one of the world's most underutilized food resources. Through our proprietary and patented processes we convert rice bran into higher value products including rice bran oil. When our plant expansion in Brazil is complete early next year, we will have upgraded our production techniques and processes to physical refining that will allow us to produce high oryzanol rice bran oil, which is the subject of the American Heart Association study. NutraCea is at the forefront of providing healthy food options for the growing world population and particularly for those with high blood pressure as reflected by the study at the American Heart Association."
