Online Reputation Is a Central Component in This Year's Presidential Contest; Reputation Changer Reviews the Reputations of Both Candidates, and Says One of Them Has a Definite Edge

(firmenpresse) - NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 09/27/12 -- In recent weeks, Republican Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has taken a beating from pundits and members of the press, with a series of PR fiascos threatening to undermine his credibility. Between what many believed to be a rash series of remarks following the violence in Libya and his widely-decried "47 percent" comments, Romney's reputation has seldom been on shakier ground. His opponent, President Obama, is no stranger to bad publicity, as his own "You Didn't Build That" gaffe was the subject of widespread dissent earlier this year. As both candidates strive to improve and preserve their reputations, however, one company, Reputation Changer, says it is online reputation that will ultimately matter the most to voters.

Reputation Changer has issued a new statement to the press, offering some comments on the presidential election from Chief Executive Officer Cliff Stein. According to Stein, the way a candidate is presented online is more important than ever before. "In a way, politics has come to resemble commerce, at least insofar as online reputation is involved," Stein remarks. "That is, a consumer, seeking to make the most prudent purchasing decision about a product or service, is happy to take a minute or two to check out different brands online, and see which one of them has the best reviews, the best reputation. The same is true with voters, who often do their due diligence by turning to the Web and doing some basic research on the candidates."

Stein explains that, for the 2012 election, online reputation may prove more relevant than ever before. "We all know that there are plenty of cable news channels and angry pundits, all too ready to sound off about candidates Obama and Romney," says the Reputation Changer executive. "By now, however, many voters are tired of all the noise and the hype, and might prefer to simply conduct a Google search and let the Internet fill in the gaps."

As such, Stein says, both candidates should be concerned about what their online reputations reveal. "Not every voter is watching around-the-clock cable news, reading the daily headlines, or even tuning in for the debates," he remarks. "For many, an online search is the ultimate decider of which candidate gets the vote."

The question, then, is which candidate is winning, in the all-important field of online reputation. According to Stein, the answer is clear -- and the point goes to the blue team. "Both candidates obviously have a lot of time and money going into their online , but, in Reputation Changer's opinion, the Obama campaign is on steadier ground," he says. Stein notes that a Google search for the president reveals mostly straightforward, biographical information, and that these online listings have fluctuated little in recent months. "There is a steadiness to President Obama's online listings that suggest a stable and strong online reputation," offers Stein.

The Romney campaign, meanwhile, is on slightly shakier ground. "Conduct a search for Romney, and you will likely see some news articles from as recently as last week," Stein explains. "There has been a lot more movement in his online listings, which suggests that a lot of folks have been trying to make up their minds about how they feel about him. Unfortunately for the Romney camp, voters seem to be deciding in a negative way, at least if online search data is any indication. Some of the highest-ranking listings for Romney are relatively negative articles, or commentaries about the troubles his campaign has been having."

Reputation Changer has offered its reputation management services to innumerable clients, among them many political figures. "We are happy to offer services to any political candidate wishing to preserve his or her online reputation, and to appear as a candidate of choice on the Internet," Stein offers. "From local school board campaigns to national races, Reputation Changer has an unparalleled array of services to offer."
