Popular Arts Festival Celebrates 10 Years of Growth, Bringing the Best the City Has to Offer to Downtown Las Vegas

The arts extravaganza, which draws tens of thousands of enthusiasts each month from all over Southern Nevada and neighboring states, will celebrate this landmark milestone on Friday, October 5, 2012 from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m.
Under new ownership since October 2011, the festival has seen significant growth with record attendance numbers, and has welcomed artists from the city, regionally and across the country, allowing them to showcase their work and partake in the urban renewal movement in Las Vegas.
"Since joining with First Friday in 2011, the incredible task of creating something each month for the city to enjoy has been so rewarding for our whole team," said First Friday Las Vegas Managing Partner Joey Vanas. First Friday started as a small idea to celebrate art and build community and has evolved to tens of thousands of attendees every month, enjoying not only art but free yoga classes, petting zoos, interactive art exhibits, art classes and much more.
The food truck movement has hit the streets of Las Vegas and thanks to the nurturing from First Friday many call it their "home base." Every month, sample the most creative and inspired mobile food concepts in town.
At one time, Imagine Dragons, whose album recently debuted at #2 on the Billboard charts, was merely a local band playing gigs at First Friday with hopes of someday making it big! First Friday is thrilled to give new bands the chance to play and possibly become music's "next big thing."
First Friday is committed to being environmentally friendly. The team has instituted a large-scale recycling program that leaves little trash each month. Art installations made from trash happen regularly at First Friday, an example of such was Una the 20' tall Trojan Unicorn made from recycled plastic bottles.
Devoted to the next generation of First Friday lovers, the event features new activities each month in the Kid's Zone. This area is dedicated to projects that help shape and expand young minds and expose them to art, science, music and fun.

First Friday Las Vegas has been a mainstay of arts and culture in downtown Las Vegas for 10 years. In 2011, the arts and culture festival welcomed a new ownership group, First Friday Las Vegas, LLC, comprised of Zappos.com executives Tony Hsieh, Fred Mossler and Steve Hill, as well as downtown developer Andrew Donner and executive producer Joey Vanas. The outdoor event features several areas throughout Downtown Las Vegas that showcase artists of all calibers and genres, supplementing with live music, food and other celebratory events. Over the past year, First Friday has boasted interactive art projects, community art installations, yoga and pilates classes, live theatrical performances and more.
