D.A Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus to Attend DocWeek

(firmenpresse) - ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/24/12 -- Acclaimed American award winning documentary filmmakers D.A Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus will attend Adelaide's inaugural Documentary Week (DocWeek) event and present a retrospective program of their work in 2013.

Announced today at the Australian Film Television and Radio School in Sydney Joost den Hartog, Director of Australian International Documentary Conference, said "He is thrilled to announce Pennebaker and Hegedus inclusion into the DocWeek program. D.A Pennebaker and Hegedus are pioneers of documentary filmmaking and form one of the most respected teams in documentary today. To have them participate in the program is a major highlight, and they will host an evening of conversation and show highlights of their careers spanning over 50 years."

D.A Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus have collaborated on more than 20 feature-length documentaries together ranging from a variety of subjects including politics, music and food. D.A Pennebaker has been making films for over 50 years and his iconic 1965 film Don't Look Back, a portrait of Bob Dylan's first tour to the UK and his last as an acoustic performer has been voted the best music documentary of all time.

D.A Pennebaker will be awarded an Honorary Academy Award -- an Oscar statuette for extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences. The Oscar will be presented at the Academy's 4th Annual Governors Awards dinner on December 1 in California. D.A Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus will fly to Adelaide straight from Los Angeles where they will attend the annual Academy Award Ceremony Guests of Honour.

Other DocWeek features include screenings of current and retrospective work by internationally acclaimed master filmmakers as well as over 30 handpicked classic documentaries, a competition strand for new talent; The F4 Award, master classes facilitated by visiting international guests and artist conversations. DocWeek will also introduce a free screening program celebrating 100 years of Australian documentary curated and presented in partnership with the National Film and Sound Archive to be screened at the State Library of South Australia, as well as AIDC, its established flagship industry event and market place.





Australia's factual film and television industry organisation, AIDC Ltd, is a not for profit organisation and was established in 1987. In recent years AIDC's services and reach have extended beyond the staging of an annual conference and is now a year round service organisation for the factual content production industry. Our annual conference and market is renowned as the number one event in the Asia-Pacific region for anyone involved in making documentaries and factual television, and annually attracts over 600 documentary directors, producers, buyers and sellers from around the world.

DocWeek will take place at several venues around Adelaide's CBD from Monday the 25th of February til Sunday 3rd of March. AIDC will be held at the Intercontinental Adelaide from February 25-28, 2013 as part of the DocWeek program.
