Company Recognized for the Third Consecutive Year by the ATA Safety Management Council

(NASDAQ: SAIA) announced today that it has been honored with two first place awards for its excellent 2011 safety record at the American Trucking Associations (ATA) Safety Management Council's recent Safety and Human Resources National Conference and Exhibition held in Kansas City, Mo.

For the third consecutive year, Saia took first place honors in the "General Commodities LTL/Local Division" category. The company also placed first this year in the "General Commodities LTL/Linehaul Division." The ATA presented the awards to Saia at the Truck and Industrial Awards and State Association Recognition Awards Luncheon on September 13.
Saia's commitment to safety includes ongoing employee training, application of the Smith System defensive driving techniques, use of the Iteris Lane Departure Warning System and Bendix Wingman Advanced technology, which assists drivers in preventing collisions, roll-overs, and loss-of-control accidents, as well as participation in the ATA's Safety Council.
