Minister Raitt Discusses Labour Issues with Chinese Counterparts and Experts
(firmenpresse) - SHANGHAI, CHINA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/19/12 -- Over the past week, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, has discussed important shared labour concerns with her Chinese counterparts and labour experts, as she visited Beijing and Shanghai.
"As Labour Minister, I always appreciate the opportunity to discuss important labour issues and solutions with experts, both within Canada and internationally," said Minister Raitt. "I have gained many valuable insights from meetings with my Chinese counterparts that will help us to better address Canadian and international labour issues."
While in Shanghai, Minister Raitt met with representatives from the Shanghai Municipal Transport and Port Authority. She discussed China's port system, and Canada's ports and their role as a reliable and efficient shipping gateway between the Asia-Pacific region and North America, on which businesses can depend.
During her stay in Beijing, Minister Raitt also renewed the Canada-China Cooperation Framework in the field of industrial relations and labour standards, and addressed the 6th China International Forum on Work Safety.
The Labour Program develops, administers and enforces workplace legislation and regulations, such as the Canada Labour Code. These laws cover industrial relations, health and safety, as well as employment standards, and apply to federally regulated workers and employers.
