Note to Editors: Space Transport "Suitcase" for Canadarm2 and Dextre is Coming to Canada
(firmenpresse) - LONGUEUIL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwire) -- 09/18/12 -- A few months after the Canadarm, it is now the turn of a second space artifact to arrive on Canadian soil. Today, the Spacelab pallet, the "cradle" in which Canadarm2 and Dextre were transported in space, left the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida. It is now en route to the Canada Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa. This transportation "suitcase" was used to anchor Canadarm2 (STS-100 mission) and Dextre, the robotic "handyman" (STS-123 mission), in the Space Shuttle cargo bay so that they could be permanently installed on the International Space Station.
Upon its arrival at the Museum, the Spacelab pallet will be stored until its exhibition concept is completed. It will then be put on display for the Canadian public for a four-year period.
