Minister Raitt Reaffirms Commitment to Working With China on Labour Issues
(firmenpresse) - BEIJING, CHINA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/17/12 -- The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, met today with Mr. Yin Weimin, the Chinese Minister of Human Resources and Social Security, to renew the Canada-China Cooperation Framework in the field of industrial relations and labour standards.
"The Government of Canada is pleased to work with our partner countries to achieve greater levels of international cooperation on labour issues," said Minister Raitt. "We look forward to continuing to work closely with China to improve industrial relations and labour standards."
The Canada-China Cooperation Framework was first signed in 2007 and was renewed in 2009. The Framework aims to reinforce the International Labour Organization's fundamental labour principles and rights, and to improve working conditions through cooperation and dialogue on issues including collective bargaining, dispute resolution, social dialogue and labour standards. This ongoing cooperation has strengthened the relationship between the two countries and provided an open forum for both Canada and China to exchange information and to share experiences and expertise.
The Labour Program develops, administers and enforces workplace legislation and regulations, such as the Canada Labour Code. These laws cover industrial relations, health and safety, as well as employment standards, and apply to federally regulated workers and employers.
