Caravan and Motorhome 'Staycations' on the Up in Autumn Despite Disastrous Summer Weather, Safeguard Reveals

ID: 1151362

(firmenpresse) - MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 09/17/12 -- A survey by Safeguard UK has revealed that the mild winter and increasing likelihood of an Indian summer means that more and more caravan and motorhome owners will be taking extended breaks throughout autumn.

In a recent survey by Safeguard, the provider, 10% of respondents made up of caravan and motorhome owners said that they did not even put their caravan into storage during winter 2011, as the weather was so mild that it had not been necessary.

Additionally, around 25% of those surveyed said that despite the heavy rainfall this summer, they had not been deterred from taking their motorhome or caravan away on weekends.

The figures come following an announcement by the Met Office that the UK is expecting a sudden surge in sunshine, after what has been the wettest summer on record for 100 years. Safeguard also expects that the ever increasing popularity of 'staycations', with caravanning being among the most popular form of this, will lead to more and more 'vanners taking extended breaks in some of the UK's best caravanning hotspots throughout autumn.

Recent statistics from the Institute of Advanced Motorists have also revealed an increase in the number of new tourer users on the whole.

Andy Leech head of Safeguard said: "It's fantastic to see so many enthusiastic 'vanners have not been deterred by the poor weather that we have experienced during the British 'summer'. The number of families and groups looking to make the most of their caravan or motorhome, by taking extended 'staycations' in autumn is also on the up, which is very encouraging. People taking such trips should of course remember to take out the correct to ensure they are covered for all eventualities on their travels."
