Minister Oliver to Visit Japan and South Korea to Strengthen Investment and Trade in Canada's Natural Resources
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 09/16/12 -- The Honourable Joe Oliver, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, will travel to Japan from September 17 to 19, where he will meet with government officials and industry leaders to discuss strengthening trade and investment between our two countries. The Minister will then travel to South Korea from September 20 to 21, where he will continue discussions to further important market diversification opportunities for Canada's natural resource sectors.
"The Harper Government recognizes that Canadian exports to Japan and South Korea are vital to Canada's future prosperity. We continue to achieve tremendous progress in trade, investment and scientific innovation," said Minister Oliver. "Our Government is aggressively pursuing agreements with countries in the Asia-Pacific region to give Canadian businesses an opportunity to compete in the fastest-growing region in the world."
On September 18, Minister Oliver will deliver a keynote address at the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo. Minister Oliver will address Japanese investors and business leaders from relevant resource sectors regarding the potential for increased two-way trade and investment in natural resources, our plan for Responsible Resource Development, and the benefits of a Canada-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement.
On September 19, the Minister will address the Liquefied Natural Gas Producer-Consumer Conference in Tokyo and will meet with international counterparts.
He will then travel to Seoul, where he will be joined by South Korean and Canadian investors and energy resource stakeholders to discuss the importance and opportunities of the Canada-South Korea energy relationship. On September 20, Minister Oliver will address the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Seoul.
During these visits, Minister Oliver will reinforce Canada's role as a responsible energy supplier, advance Canada's opportunities to diversify natural resource exports to Asia, and promote the Harper Government's plan for Responsible Resource Development.
