STARS Helicopter Airlifts Prominent CEOs into the Wilderness for Unique Fundraiser

(firmenpresse) - CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/14/12 -- For the second year in a row, the Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society (STARS) is partnering with some of Alberta's most influential business leaders for CEO Rescue in the Rockies for STARS, a fundraiser that has been deemed a one-of-a-kind, unique fundraising initiative. Last year's inaugural event raised more than $1.3 million, making it STARS' largest one-day fundraiser in history.

Past participants collaborated with STARS to challenge and recruit five new CEOs for this year's fundraiser, including: Bruce March, Chairman, President and CEO of Imperial Oil Limited; Steve Laut, President of Canadian Natural Resources Limited; Dale Dusterhoft, CEO of Trican Well Services Ltd.; John Gibson, President and CEO of Tervita; and Matt Brister, CEO of Chinook Energy Inc.

A STARS helicopter will airlift the challengers early today from the Peace Bridge helipad, and drop them at a remote location in Kananaskis Country. The CEOs will be dropped at the pre-determined site with only their cell phones to get them out of the wilderness. Their only hope of rescue is to call friends, family and colleagues and compete with each other to be the fastest to raise $100,000 each in donations. Once they reach this goal, they will be "rescued" from their location by STARS' helicopter and returned to civilization.

"Our hope is not only to raise much needed funds for the invaluable service STARS provides, but to generate awareness through this memorable initiative," says Matt Brister, CEO, Chinook Energy Inc. "Not everyone is fortunate to be close to critical care level medical services, and STARS directly contributes to saving lives of Albertans across the province on a daily basis."

Funds raised through CEO Rescue in the Rockies for STARS will support STARS mission of providing a safe, rapid, highly specialized emergency medical transport system for the critically ill and injured.

"We couldn't provide the emergency care and transport to critically ill and injured patients that we do without the support of such donors," says Andrea Robertson, president and CEO of STARS. "We are touched by the philanthropic spirit and dedication of our participants."
