One of the most prestigious whiskies to come out of the Glenfiddich distillery, the Glenfiddich Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve 55 Year Old has arrived in Canada. Only eleven bottles of this exceptional liquid have been allocated worldwide to recognize the long life and rich contribution Janet Sheed Roberts made to her family's distillery. Janet Sheed Roberts (1901 - 2012) granddaughter to distillery founder, William Grant was part of a pioneering legacy that began 125 years ago. Sally Gordon, great-niece of Janet Sheed will make a special appearance in Canada to continue their legacy with the auction of this extraordinary single malt Scotch.
The LCBO in conjunction with Waddington's Auction House will sell the record-breaking Scotch whisky to Canada's highest bidder on October 19th at Toronto's The Trump Hotel. As part of an exclusive dinner and live auction, the Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve will be the first item up for bid. All proceeds from the Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve bottle will go to Wounded Warriors, a not-for-profit organization that assists and improves the quality of life of wounded Canadian soldiers and their families.
At the time of its purchase, the first bottle of Glenfiddich Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve set records as the most expensive bottle of whisky ever sold at auction. The renowned Scotch whisky has since earned international acclaim as one of the rarest and most expensive single malt Scotches in the world. Bidding for Canada's lone bottle of Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve will start at $50,000 CAD and is open to the public. To date, Glenfiddich has raised a total of GBP 218,252 ($341,839.25 CAD) for charity through auction of the Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve.
Pale gold in colour, The Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve reflects the hue of autumn barley. On the nose it is light and delicate with aromas of soft orange blossom and delicate violets mingled with notes of toasted almonds and the subtlest hint of smoke. From the hand-blown bottle and elegant monogrammed gold on aquamarine Cloisonne stopper, to the luxurious leather case, all were designed by the finest European craftsmen.
Canada shares a long history with the William Grant's Distillery through family connections to George Stephen, later Lord Mount Stephen, one of the founders of the Canadian Pacific Railway and The Bank of Montreal. Because of this unique relationship, Canada has received the honour of auctioning one of the rarest bottles of single malt Scotch in the world, the Janet Sheed Roberts 55 Year Old.
The auction of the Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve 55 Year Old is open to the public.
