(firmenpresse) - DUARTE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/11/12 -- Autism author, blogger and special needs mom, Rebecca Woods will offer a book signing for her novel, Living Through Charlie, a story of the obstacles faced by a learning-disabled child and his parents inside an elite private school community, Saturday, October 6, 2012 from 10 am to 5 pm at the Westminster Gardens (1420 Santo Domingo, Duarte) during the Friends of Duarte Library's 10th Annual Festival of Authors.

Proceeds from the 10th Annual Festival of Authors will support Duarte Library programs to celebrate the magic of reading.

Living Through Charlie follows Meg Norton as she tries to become an A-list mom and a perfect wife in the Southern California suburb. When Charlie's odd behavior at his posh, private preschool alienates the other kids and their moms, Meg struggles with her husband's desire for the perfect family and her son's needs. "As moms we have a tendency to over-relate to our kids' experiences and take them on as our own," Woods says. "Whether parenting a special needs child or not, my readers totally identify with Meg's struggles."

Woods is available for comment on private school education and her experiences as a mother of a child with Asperger's Syndrome. Contact Annie Rivera at (714) 353-0832 or .

Rebecca Woods, author of Living Through Charlie, attended the UCLA Writer's Program and Community of Writers at Squaw Valley. She is a former private school and special education school drama teacher and the mother of two grown children with learning disabilities. She lives in Southern California with her husband and is working on her second novel.

"Living Through Charlie" is the story of the obstacles faced by the mother of a learning-disabled child inside an elite private school community. While Charlie, a young boy with Asperger's Syndrome, teaches his mother to love and accept him for who he is, she learns to love and accept herself in the process. Kirkus Reviews described Living Through Charlie as "An irreverent but stylish critique of a privileged social milieu" and gave it the Kirkus Star recognizing it as a book of "remarkable merit."
