Investment to Fuel Rapid Deployment of Synapse M2M Solutions

(firmenpresse) - HUNTSVILLE, AL -- (Marketwire) -- 09/06/12 -- Synapse Wireless® announced today that McWane, Inc. has acquired a majority interest in Synapse and its award-winning, wireless mesh network platform called SNAP®. McWane's financial backing will allow Synapse to accelerate its technology expansion and product offerings for the rapidly growing machine-to-machine (M2M) communications market.

Customers gain added confidence by selecting Synapse products when designing solutions that need to wirelessly connect to each other and to the internet. Synapse is a pioneer in the essential building blocks for creating low-cost, scalable, M2M networks, often referred to as the "Internet of Things" offering modern features such as:

Seamless interface of M2M network to the cloud

Application code or SNAP core updates performed over-the-air

Application virtual machine for ease and speed of developing an application for a node

Peer to peer architecture -- no central point of failure

Device interaction via Remote Procedure Calls across multiple RF platforms

SNAP as a meta-network across multiple transport layers

Processor independence

"Synapse's SNAP solution has already been chosen by many important commercial and government applications," said Wade Patterson, President and CEO of Synapse Wireless. "And now, McWane's financial strength and long term vision will give us the stability to develop our products and capabilities even further to meet our customers' needs on a much broader scale than ever before."

Since 1921, McWane has been a global leader in water infrastructure products and is one of the largest privately-held companies in the United States. "McWane's long successful history comes from multi-generational thinking," said G. Ruffner Page, President of McWane. "We chose Synapse as our entry point into advanced technology because of our closely shared vision for the future, our strong cultural fit and the extremely broad capabilities of the SNAP platform."

SNAP already supports the widest range of processor platforms in the M2M space, including Freescale, Panasonic, Atmel, Silicon Labs, and ST Microelectronics with many more semi-conductor companies in the process of SNAP ports. SNAP not only runs on cost-effective 8-bit microcontrollers, but also can scale up to the power of a 32-bit ARM 7 processor -- and all on the same network. SNAP's expansion across more processor platforms includes full mesh routing using all communication interfaces (e.g. IEEE 802.15.4, WiFi, TCP/IP, Ethernet, USB and more).

Synapse Wireless will become a majority owned subsidiary of the McWane Corporation. "We plan to accelerate and broaden Synapse's product lines through technical development and acquisitions," said Key Foster, Senior Vice President, McWane Global. "With International Data Corporation's (IDC) market projections for intelligent systems reaching billions of dollars over the next few years, we intend to position SNAP as a de-facto standard for the rapidly growing M2M market."

Synapse plans to significantly increase its software and hardware engineering teams to compete aggressively in the M2M market. With over 30 patents from 5 years of development effort, Synapse's SNAP software is winning business in many different industries, such as asset management, energy, healthcare, military and more.

Synapse provides software development and diagnostic tools to third-party developers without cost for fast prototyping and troubleshooting. Applications can be developed quickly because SNAP provides a clean virtual environment for the application while handling the complexities of mesh networking automatically. SNAP also supports low power nodes for battery powered applications and provides all of this capability in a very small memory footprint of 45K allowing the use of very inexpensive RF microcontrollers. And SNAP also supports cloud architectures using Synapse's SNAP Connect E10 gateway devices.

Synapse was represented by Centerview Partners and Sall Advisors investment banking firms, as well as the Morris, Manning and Martin law firm. McWane was represented by the Maynard, Cooper and Gale law firm.
