Cecile Richards to Receive INFORUM's 21st Century Visionary Award
(firmenpresse) - SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/05/12 -- Cecile Richards, the nation's celebrated paragon of women's rights, will receive INFORUM's 21st Century Visionary Award on Oct. 10th at The Castro Theatre in San Francisco.
The 21st Century Visionary Award is bestowed in recognition of special achievement, innovation and distinguished public service. Past honorees include YouTube founders' Chad Hurley and Steven Chen, King Abdullah II of Jordan, Van Jones, and most recently, novelist and philanthropist, Dave Eggers. Cecile's revolutionary work advocating for both women and the next generation makes her a worthy candidate to join this impressive list.

Richards has served as the president of Planned Parenthood since 2006. She has earned respect for her poised leadership amidst controversy, braving congressional budget debates and forcefully advocating for equal access to health care and women's reproductive rights. Her initiatives extend far beyond the gender sector, and include promoting leadership programs for today's youth and leading national health-based educational campaigns.
Prior to leading Planned Parenthood, Richards founded two activist networks, America Votes and The Texas Freedom Network. Richards also served as deputy chief of staff for House Democratic Leader, Nancy Pelosi, and worked at The Turner Foundation, an organization dedicated to philanthropic grants in environment and population. She was recently named to the Ford Foundation Board of Trustees, received the 2010 Puffin/Nation Prize for Creative Citizenship and was named to the 2012 Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World.
INFORUM will honor Richards with its 21st Century Visionary Award on Oct. 10th for a high-profile evening at The Castro Theatre, in partnership with The National Association of Women Business Owners - San Francisco Bay Area Chapter, The Global Fund for Women and the League of Women Voters of San Francisco. Prior to the live on stage conversation with Richards at 7 p.m., INFORUM is hosting a VIP reception with hors d'oeuvres, wine, music and an appearance by Richards.
