Explore the Turkish Riviera with Monarch Flights
(firmenpresse) - LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 09/03/12 -- In response to growing demand from holidaymakers, Monarch has increased the number of flights on offer to Turkish destinations including Dalaman and Antalya - two perfect jumping off points for travellers wishing to explore the 'Turkish Riviera'.
The Dalaman district stretches along the southern coast of Turkey about 50 miles from the island of Rhodes. Famous for its beautiful beaches and seafaring culture, it's also a major destination for archaeologists - both professional and amateur - who will find plenty to explore within the area's rich cultural history.
Visitors tend to head to coastal towns that lie to the west and east of Dalaman, such as Marmaris, Fethiye, and Dalyan. The azure waters and stunning beaches are the perfect place to relax, and the many different resorts and accommodation choices mean that it's easy to find the perfect bolt-hole, whether you're on a romantic break or a trip with the kids.
It's not only the beaches that make this part of the world special, however. You can take a boat along the Dalyan River to the ancient ruins of Kaunos, gliding silently past stone monuments and tombs from a lost age. Koycegiz is a still-quiet town situated on the stunning lake Koycegiz Golu: head here if you want a more serene shore.
Alternatively, if you're looking for vibrant nightlife, Marmaris is the most buzzing of the coastal towns, with a historic and very active port area. Catch a ferry - or charter a gulet (a traditional single-masted wooden ship) - to explore the coast more fully. Inland, beautiful mountain resorts such as Ovacik offer more peaceful breaks.
Antalya, further east on the coast, offers a similar mix of ancient history and modern chic, boasting fine dining experiences as well as a wealth of history and archaeology. The ancient Kaleici quarter is an excellent example of Turkey's Roman and Ottoman heritage, and is home to one of the finest archaeological museums in the region.
The weather in the summer months is reliably warm. Midday temperatures between June and September are in the low 30s (degrees C), while the heat loses its edge in the evening. The season extends one month on either side of the traditional 'British summer', so October is still a perfect month to visit Turkey if you're looking for a blast of warmth before winter arrives in the UK.
