Project Involvement Enhances Company's Strong Program Management Responsibility Throughout the Northeast

(firmenpresse) - ALLENTOWN, PA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/28/12 -- Burns & McDonnell, an international full-service engineering, architecture, construction, environmental and consulting services firm, announced it has resumed a program management role on PPL Electric Utilities' Susquehanna-Roseland transmission line project.

Recently, the Obama administration selected the Susquehanna-Roseland line as one of seven transmission lines nationwide for fast-track treatment by the administration's Rapid Response Team for Transmission.

Burns & McDonnell will resume a variety of services on behalf of PPL Electric Utilities on the company's large-scale electric transmission infrastructure improvement project. Scope of work includes Program Management, Stakeholder Management, Planning, Safety Management, Engineering Review, Cost Controls, Document Controls, Environmental Monitoring, Scheduling, Procurement, and Construction Management.

The Pennsylvania portion of the Susquehanna-Roseland project consists of 101 miles of new 500-kV overhead transmission line. The independent regional power grid operator, PJM Interconnection, ordered the new line to reduce overloading and alleviate congestion on existing power lines in eastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey. The project will create about 2,000 jobs during its three-year construction period and provide significant benefits for electric customers as well as strengthen the power grid throughout the region.

Public Service Electric & Gas (PSE&G) is developing the New Jersey portion of the approximately 145-mile route.

"We are eager to play a key role in supporting PPL Electric Utilities to deliver more reliable power to the residents and businesses of Pennsylvania," said Burns & McDonnell New England Office Senior Vice President Brett Williams. "We are confident that our proven experience on similar large-scale infrastructure improvement projects, combined with our employee-owners' tireless efforts, will greatly contribute to the overall success of this important project."

A core team of four Burns & McDonnell project managers relocated to PPL Electric Utilities' office in Allentown, PA during the summer of 2008 to begin planning operations for the Susquehanna-Roseland Project. This core team is supported by Burns & McDonnell's New England Regional Office as well as the World Headquarters in Kansas City, MO. With the recent fast tracking by the Obama Administration, this core team continues to grow in the Allentown area.

Burns & McDonnell is currently serving in a Program Management role for several other large-scale infrastructure improvements projects throughout the Northeast including two recently awarded Public Service Electric & Gas Company projects (Southern Reinforcement Project and the Underground Transmission Initiative), Northeast Utilities' New England East-West Solution (NEEWS) project spanning Western Massachusetts and Connecticut, as well as Central Maine Power's Maine Power Reliability Program which spans 75 communities from Eliot to Orrington, ME. The company has created over 150 full-time jobs throughout the Northeast over the past five years.

Founded in 1898, Burns & McDonnell is a 100 percent employee-owned, full-service engineering, architecture, construction, environmental and consulting services firm. Burns & McDonnell is currently the 20th largest AEC firm in the Engineering News-Record Top 500 ranking.
