2012 Canadian Comedy Award Winners
(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 08/27/12 -- The Canadian Comedy Awards Foundation in association with The Comedy Network are pleased to announce the winners of 13th Annual Canadian Comedy Awards (CCAs), presented Sunday night at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto, ON.
Dominating the night was Halifax troupe Picnicface, picking up honours for their self-titled television show in the categories of Best TV Show, Best Writing - Television Program or Series, and Best Performance by an Ensemble - Television. Members of Picnicface also won three film awards for Rollertown in the categories of Best Film, Best Writing - Film, and Best Direction - Film.
Rebecca Northan (not in attendance) earned two awards: Best Female Improvisor; and Best Comedic Play, Revue, or Series for her improvised stage show Blind Date.
Nikki Payne was named Canadian Comedy Person of the Year.

2012 was a record year for both industry and public voting. Public participation grew by 88% over 2011, and industry voting more than doubled with an increase of 113%. Select categories are voted on by both industry and the public (Canadian Comedy Person of the Year, Best TV Show, Best Film, Best Web Clip, Best Web Series, Best Podcast, Best Radio Program or Clip), with the remainder voted on by members of the comedy industry only.

Since 2000, the Canadian Comedy Awards (CCAs) have awarded over 250 "Beaver" statues to projects and artists for their excellence in live performance, film, television, radio, and internet categories. Leading up to the Awards, a multi-day Festival featuring performances by nominated artists brings the very best in Canadian comedy to the CCA's host city. The CCAs are administered by the Canadian Comedy Foundation for Excellence (CCFE), a non-profit organization whose mandate is to "recognize, celebrate and promote Canadian achievements in comedy at home and abroad".
