23-Year-Old Mystery of Pro Hockey Player's Violent Death Solved
Author to Present Forensic Findings at Los Angeles Regional Crime Lab
(firmenpresse) - LOS ANGLELES, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/23/12 -- Duncan MacPherson was a pro hockey player, a first round pick of the New York Islanders. In August of 1989, on a brief tour of Europe, he vanished without a trace. For two decades his parents tried to figure out what happened to him. In a new book titled Cold a Long Time: An Alpine Mystery, author John Leake reveals the terrifying truth of Duncan's violent death and how it was concealed for two decades by a popular ski resort near Innsbruck, Austria with the complicity of local law enforcement.
This Sunday, August 26 at the Los Angeles Regional Crime Lab, Leake will present the forensic evidence that enabled him to unravel the mystery with the help of Lynne Herold, Senior Criminalist at the L.A. County Sheriff's Department. The story is a striking example of how an investigative journalist can work closely with forensic scientists to solve a cold case.
"One of the biggest cover-up cases I have ever seen," commented Margaret McClean, author, former Boston prosecutor and Boston College Law Professor. Just as top officers at Penn State remained silent about Jerry Sandusky's crimes, a shocking number of officials (named in the book) participated in the concealment of Duncan MacPherson's death.
