Becker & Poliakoff Lawyer/Lobbyist Appointed Alternate Delegate to 2012 Republican National Convention

LAUDERDALE, FL -- (Marketwire) -- 08/23/12 -- Becker & Poliakoff today announced that Nelson Diaz, a shareholder in the firm's Government Law & Lobbying practice group in the Coral Gables office, has been named an Alternate Delegate to the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, August 27-30.
Each alternate delegate is paired with a voting delegate. Alternates stand in for delegates when the delegates have other obligations at the convention, or if they aren't able to make the trip to the convention.
Mr. Diaz is a member of the Republican Executive Committee and Finance Co-Chair for the Miami Dade Republican Party. He has been active in Republican politics in Florida for over 15 years and previously served as Chief Legislative Aide to the Former Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives and now U.S. Senator Marco Rubio.
At the Republican National Convention, Mr. Diaz also will participate in a special luncheon and policy briefing for Hispanic delegates on Tuesday, August 28. Becker & Poliakoff's Government Law & Lobbying Group is one of the co-sponsors of the "Red, White, Y Tu' -- Our American Dream" event.
Admitted to the Florida Bar in 2004, Mr. Diaz began his political career as a volunteer in the 1996 Presidential race in Florida, working alongside other volunteers to build a strong Republican Party base in South Florida. Subsequently, he joined the staff of Rep. Rubio in 2000 and has since worked on various political campaigns in Florida, including U.S. presidential and senate campaigns, as well as Florida State Legislative and Miami-Dade County Commission races.
Mr. Diaz concentrates his practice on representation of local governments, businesses, trade associations and other corporate clients before the legislative and executive branches of state government. He is especially knowledgeable on Florida's budget and appropriations process and has helped guide legislation and appropriations through the committee process to the floor of the House and Senate and, ultimately, onto the governor's desk.
