2nd-19th September 2012 will see Portobello Road and its surrounding area come alive, as the festival provides a myriad of film-related entertainment for both locals and visitors
(firmenpresse) - LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 08/23/12 -- Portobello Film Festival is an independent, international film festival that premiers over 700 films each year, at pop up cinemas and screenings at various studios in west London. The festival offers a mixture of feature films, animations, musical films, documentaries and shorts, as well as workshops and talks from directors. Millennium & Copthorne Hotels have few , all within easy access of Portobello Road and many of London's popular sights and attractions.
This will be the 15th annual Portobello Film Festival, which, each year aims to help showcase new filmmakers and give exposure to movies that may not otherwise be seen by large audiences. The film festival lasts for three weeks and admission to every event is free.
While they were virtually unknown at the time, some of Britain's best known directors gained recognition after debuting at the Portobello Film Festival. These include Shane Meadows, who later directed 'This is England', and Guy Ritchie, director of 'Sherlock Holmes' and 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels', amongst other films.
Festival director, Jonathon Barnett, said "The actual films we're showing are a lot better than anything you'll see mostly on the television or in the multiplexes, and it's everything from student films to stuff from top filmmakers such as John Malkovich." This could be why The Independent named the event 'the biggest and best celebration of independent film in Europe'.
