The new CORONIC Mobile Check detects security issues on smartphones and helps the customers of many members of the Volksbank and Raiffeisenbank group to close security gaps

(PresseBox) - 'We have detected out-of-date software on your mobile containing a vulnerability': from now on, bank customers using the new CORONIC Mobile Check may see such a warning appear on their smartphone screen.
VR-NetWorld GmbH, the Volksbank and Raiffeisenbank group's central internet services provider in Germany, is the first company to make use of the new CORONIC Mobile Check. 'As opposed to other security products that had to be downloaded and installed beforehand, the Check performs a scan directly in the bank's mobile website. All mobile owners who want to check that their device is safe can now do so for free with the Volksbanks and Raiffeisenbanks already equipped with the mobile webBank system,' says Sebastian Klein, the project manager in charge of the project at VR-NetWorld in Bonn. 35 members of the Volksbank and Raiffeisenbank group across Germany are now equipped with the mobile service, such as the Dortmund or Bonn Rhein Sieg Volksbanks. In technical terms, the Mobile Check service is designed for all modern smartphones and is compatible with all Apple devices, from the iPhone to the iPad, as well as Android mobiles such as the new Galaxy S III. By next autumn, the Check will also be able to run on the new Windows Phone and Windows Tablet on Microsoft Windows 8.
'Nowadays, all mobile phones are like small computers, which explains why they have inherited all the typical security issues we find on computers,' explains Frank Bock, managing director of CORONIC GmbH. With this in mind, the Mobile Check was designed to ensure that the mobile phone's operating system and browser are up-to-date. 'As with PCs, an out-of-date software version is the main gateway for viruses and Trojans, which can also infect a telephone,' says Bock. To close these gateways, the latest version of the software must be installed on the mobile. But how can one know what software version is installed on a phone and if a more recent and safer version is available?

Just by pressing one single key, the Check will detect out-of-date software versions and explain how to solve the identified security gaps. Whoever wishes to scan their smartphone or iPad themselves can do so by following the link to the Mobile Check on http://www.coronic.de/en/mobil-check or by scanning the QR Code with their mobile.
