Statement From Minister Toews on "Wanted by the CBSA" Arrest
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 08/17/12 -- The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, issued the following statement today on the arrest of Kemford Sebastian Durrant in Toronto.
"This individual is inadmissible to Canada for failing to comply with the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, and is also inadmissible for a number of Canadian convictions including theft, possession of a narcotic substance and assault with intent to resist arrest. I commend the Toronto Police Service for their excellent work in taking this individual off the street and helping make our communities safer.
Since the CBSA introduced the "Wanted by the CBSA" list last year, close to 30 individuals have been apprehended. This success speaks to the commitment this Government and all Canadians have in sending a clear message to would-be criminals that our country is no safe haven for those who come here and commit crimes."
Durrant is the 27th individual located from "Wanted by the CBSA" list. Since the list was launched in July 2011, 19 individuals have been removed from Canada and five have been located abroad.
