Harper Government Invests to Strengthen the Economy of the City of Elliot Lake
(firmenpresse) - ELLIOT LAKE, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 08/17/12 -- The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister for FedNor, today announced a Government of Canada investment of $53,500 to help the City of Elliot Lake develop a strategic plan to develop and diversify its local economy.
"Our Government is proud to make this targeted investment to help strengthen the economic outlook for the City of Elliot Lake," said Minister Clement. "Today's announcement will enable the municipality to identify and capitalize on immediate and future economic opportunities, helping to create jobs and build a strong, sustainable local economy."
FedNor funding will enable the City of Elliot Laketo hire a consulting firm to conduct research as well as the public and business consultations required to develop a comprehensive economic development and diversification strategy for the community. Identified as a local priority, this project will create an economic road map to help guide the municipal decision-making process and position the community for long-term growth and prosperity.
"On behalf of the citizens and businesses of Elliot Lake, I welcome and appreciate this strong show of support from the Government of Canada and FedNor," said Mayor Rick Hamilton, City of Elliot Lake. "This important investment will provide us with the necessary resources to develop and implement a strategic plan that will help strengthen the economic health of our community."
Funding for this project was provided through FedNor's Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports initiatives that strengthen community economic development, enhance business growth and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
