Yogathon Brings Message of Peace, Unity to Heart of Toronto at Yonge-Dundas Square
(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 08/16/12 -- Yogis, health enthusiasts and beginners will gather on Sunday, August 19 at Yonge-Dundas Square in the heart of Toronto to participate in the Art of Living Foundation's inaugural Yogathon - 108 Sun Salutation Challenge.
Yogathon challenges participants across Canada to complete 108 sun salutations, a dynamic sequence of movements (asana) performed to celebrate the sun, while building strength and improving flexibility. The Canada-wide Yogathon aims to create awareness about yoga and its role in a healthy lifestyle, as well as raise funds for Care for Children's educational initiatives in developing countries.
Recent events in our city and the outbreak of violence in a public space inevitably challenge us to question our security and ask, "Is Toronto still safe?" says Debra Joy Eklove, President, Art of Living Foundation. "We believe it is and we are inviting the Toronto community to cross the borders of their yoga mats, studios, style, form, age, culture and according to their physical ability unite to find peace and tranquility."
Care for Children is a program of the Art of Living Foundation, which partners with rural and tribal areas in Africa, India and other underdeveloped countries to establish schools and other educational infrastructure.
The Art of Living Foundation is the largest volunteer-based Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in the world. The Foundation's service projects, programs on meditation, stress elimination and Sri Sri Yoga have benefited millions of people representing all walks of life, religions, cultures and traditions.
Yogathon 2012 participating cities: Montreal, Halifax, Vancouver, Calgary, Quebec, Toronto and Ottawa.
