The old mill was demolished after Dan River went in to liquidation in 2008 after almost 126 years of production in the textiles industry in America.
The mill held a place in many people's hearts so Dan River Architectural Millworks decided to start producing the keyrings. It wasn't just keyrings that were produced either, a range of furniture and plaques and authentic timber have also been created - all of which still carrying a scent of cotton.
The concept is likely to be a popular one as consumers are turning to solid wood products during the recession because of the superior quality and maple is a very stylish timber.
With flooring recycling schemes commonplace across the United States of America, this kind of venture may well turn to be extremely innovative and pioneering as it will stop hardwood of this type from being scrapped. The maple timber could also turn out to be ideal for home decor as light wood is very popular with many modern interior design techniques.
