New Book Solves 23-Year-Old Mystery of Pro Hockey Player's Disappearance
(firmenpresse) - MENLO PARK, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/08/12 -- was a pro hockey player, a first round pick of the New York Islanders. In August of 1989, on a brief tour of Europe, he vanished without a trace. For two decades his parents tried to figure out what happened to him. In a new book titled Cold a Long Time: An Alpine Mystery, author John Leake reveals the terrifying truth of Duncan's violent death and how it was concealed for two decades by a popular ski resort near Innsbruck, Austria with the complicity of local law enforcement.
"One of the biggest cases I have ever seen," commented Margaret McClean, author, former Boston prosecutor and Boston College Law Professor. "A credible and compelling presentation that is hard to deny as the truth of this matter," said , a leading forensic scientist. Just as top officers at Penn State remained silent about Jerry Sandusky's crimes, a shocking number of officials (named in the book) participated in the concealment of Duncan MacPherson's death. Even Canadian External Affairs withheld critical information from Duncan's parents -- information that would have enabled them to discover at an early stage in their search what had happened to their son, thus sparing them years of agonizing uncertainty.
This July, Cold a Long Time won the 2012 Independent Publisher Book Award (bronze medal/true crime). On August 26, author John Leake will give a talk on the of the story at the Los Angeles Regional Crime Lab, Cal State LA campus.
