Canada's Labour Minister Tours Canada Post Facilities in Winnipeg
(firmenpresse) - WINNIPEG, MANITOBA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/03/12 -- The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, today toured the Winnipeg Canada Post facilities and met with employees and management to discuss emerging trends and challenges related to workplace health and safety. The state-of the-art Winnipeg mail processing plant is Canada Post's first plant to be registered as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) building. It was designed with special considerations for employees' health and safety.
"I would like to thank Winnipeg Canada Post for giving me an opportunity to see for myself their contributions to workplace safety," said Minister Raitt. "Their efforts support the Government of Canada's commitment to promote fair, respectful and healthy work environments that make Canada strong and prosperous."
The Labour Program develops, administers and enforces workplace legislation and regulations, including the Employment Equity Act and the Canada Labour Code, which cover industrial relations, health and safety and employment standards. These laws apply to federally regulated workers and employers.
