Minister Raitt Congratulates Atomic Energy of Canada Limited and the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada on Ratifying New Agreement
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 08/01/12 -- Today, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, congratulated Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) and the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) for ratifying a new collective agreement.
"I am very pleased that AECL and PIPSC have reached an agreement without resorting to a work stoppage," said Minister Raitt. "Strong labour-management relations are crucial when facing current and emerging economic challenges."
The unit of approximately 750 professional employees perform engineering and scientific work at the Chalk River Laboratories. The new collective agreement is valid until 2014 and replaces the previous agreement which expired on June 7, 2011.
The agreement was reached with assistance from the Labour Program's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service provides dispute resolution and dispute prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code.
