(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 08/01/12 -- June 21, 2012 A Kingston man left an animal unattended in a vehicle and has now been charged under the Ontario SPCA Act.

The dog, "Parker", was left in an SUV at the Loblaw's store located on Lower Jarvis Street, Toronto. Toronto Police Service attended the vehicle and removed the animal. The Ontario SPCA arrived shortly after to continue the investigation.

The Kingston man was charged with one count of permitting distress under the Ontario SPCA Act.

"Sadly this year has proven to be deadly for several animals who were left unattended in vehicles within the GTA," says Ontario SPCA Senior Inspector Steve Toy, "Not only has this proven to be a busy year for the Ontario SPCA but also for police services all across the province. This can be easily avoided by being a responsible animal owner and leaving your pets at home."

The Ontario SPCA reminds pet owners that if you have concerns for the welfare of your animal there are other alternatives then allowing an animal to go without. Contact your local Ontario SPCA and we can discuss what services are available. To report cruelty please call 1-888-668-7722 or email your concern to .
