CJ Charles Jewelers Encourages Continued Decline of Drug Use in America
While Numbers of Illicit Drug Use Are Down, New Reports Show That Prescription Medication Abuse Is on the Rise; Anti-Drug Advocate, CJ Charles Jewelers Comments on the Progress the Country Has Made
(firmenpresse) - LA JOLLA, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/01/12 -- According to a new from Business Insider, many of the nation's efforts against drug use are starting to show a positive impact. According to the most recent findings from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, the current rate of cocaine use among citizens is at 1.5 million -- down from the 5.8 million reported in the mid-1980s. Additionally, the survey found that methamphetamine use has also experienced a similar decline. Despite these successes, there is a growing concern involving the use of prescription pain killers; a trend that is not as easy to track since it is fostered by drugs that are legally available in some cases. As a proud supporter of The Sundt Foundation -- an anti-drug advocacy group -- CJ Charles Jewelers responds to these new statistics.
Since 1994, The Sundt Foundation has encouraged children to stay away from drugs and alcohol as a way to avoid myriad of life problems, including depression. Through a series of interactive and fun teaching lessons, the group has provided much needed information that warns youth about the dangers of drugs. Vahid Moradi, founder of comments, "Learning that illicit drug use is down is wonderful news for everyone involved in the fight against substance abuse. Having supported groups like The Sundt Foundation for years, CJ Charles Jewelers is proud to see the positive results of such educational initiatives."
However, the danger of prescription pill abuse is still heavy among Americans, young and old. The article states, "America's drug abuse problem is moving away from illicit drugs like cocaine and moving towards the abuse of prescription painkillers." This statement is backed by findings from the survey that reveals in 2010 there were seven million reported users of "psychotherapeutics." Even more alarming, in 2008 nearly 55 percent of overdose deaths were due to prescription drug abuse.
Moradi responds, "The rate of prescription drug abuse is overwhelming; everyone at CJ Charles Jewelers believes that such statistics should prompt a more in-depth analysis of how to correct the problem." Moradi suggests that, like the thorough education programs implemented by The Sundt Foundation, there should be extensive instruction courses that inform children about the dangers of prescription pills. "Many children may not know about the consequences of abusing prescription drugs, because they are not necessarily illegal. Everyone needs to learn how to appropriately use prescription medication and prevent a habit-forming problem."
