Notting Hill Carnival returns for another year on Sunday August 26th and Monday August 27th 2012, bringing its famous colour, sounds and smells, as the streets in the district are filled with parades, music and dance.

(firmenpresse) - SURREY, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 07/31/12 -- Notting Hill Carnival is preparing for the August bank holiday weekend once again this year, as it has done every year since 1966. Over 50,000 performers are expected to be involved in the famous parade, dressed in a variety of elaborate costumes. Make your visit as comfortable and convenient as possible by staying in one of the Millennium & Copthorne , which are all located within easy reach of Notting Hill.

The festival, which is the largest street festival in Europe, will cover over 20 miles of West London and will feature a mix of food, colourful costumes and blaring sound systems. This is made possible by 40,000 volunteers who put on the event for an expected 1 million visitors, all coming to soak up the carnival atmosphere.

Started in 1946 by the West Indian community of Notting Hill, the carnival is now a completely Caribbean affair, which brings a spirit of diversity to the streets of West London. The bands, decorations and stalls are joined by colourful and impressive processions of floats. A further highlight is the traditional food that is available, including jerk chicken, curried goat, with rice and peas.

Sunday is known as Kid's Day and prizes are awarded for the best costumes, however the main event takes place on Bank Holiday Monday, as the parade processes through the city. The parade usually finishes around 7.00pm, however for many visitors, the party then continues until the early hours of the next morning, at one of the many after parties that take place around London.

The best way to get to is by public transport, as nearby streets are often closed for the parade. This makes one of Millennium & Copthorne's six London hotels the perfect place to stay, as they are all centrally located and close to transport links. They are located within the fashionable districts of Kensington, Knightsbridge, Mayfair and Chelsea.
