Statement From Ministers Toews and Shea Regarding the Change of Command in RCMP "L" Division, P.E.I.
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 07/26/12 -- The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, and the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of National Revenue, today issued the following statement to mark the Royal Canadian Mounted Police's Change of Command Ceremony in honour of outgoing Commanding Officer, Chief Superintendent Tracy Hardy, and incoming Commanding Officer, Superintendent Craig Gibson, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
"We congratulate Superintendent Gibson on his new role as Commanding Officer of "L" Division. Superintendent Gibson has been with the RCMP for thirty years, during which time he has performed various duties in Saskatchewan, Ottawa and Atlantic Canada, including regular policing duties, instructor at the RCMP's training academy in "Depot" Division, and Aboriginal and Visible Minority recruiter in Nova Scotia.
As the RCMP's first African-Canadian Commanding Officer, Superintendent Gibson represents the values the RCMP is striving for. Having grown up and spent much of his career in Atlantic Canada, he is familiar with its unique policing challenges and opportunities.
We also thank Chief Superintendent Tracy Hardy for the strong leadership and dedication she has demonstrated as "L" Division Commanding Officer since May 2010, and wish her all the best in her new posting as Commanding Officer in Newfoundland and Labrador."
