United States Post Office to Honor Joe DiMaggio With "All-Star" Forever Stamp and Dedication Celebration

On July 21, 2012, the United States Post Office will release the Joe DiMaggio Forever Stamp as part of a set of four Major League Baseball All-Stars Forever Stamps. Advance sales of the DiMaggio stamp currently exceed 420,000 pieces, outperforming the co-launching "All-Stars" and clearly showing how the legend of Joe DiMaggio resonates with Americans young and old.
To further commemorate the launch, the United States Post Office is hosting a dedication ceremony on July 21 at the Main Post Office in the Bronx beginning at 11:00 a.m. Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz will proclaim July 21st "Joe DiMaggio Day" and a special First Day of Issue postmark will be available in 54 post offices in the Bronx area only on July 21.
Appearances include DiMaggio family members, Joe's closest friend and confidant, representatives from the New York Yankees, Pulitzer-winning sports writer Dave Anderson of the New York Times, as well as District and Bronx postal officials.
