Minister Yelich Promotes Western Canadian Defence and Security Capabilities at WESTDEF Symposium
(firmenpresse) - CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwire) -- 07/09/12 -- Today, the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, addressed delegates at Western Canada's Defence and Security Symposium (WESTDEF) and further promoted western Canadian capabilities in the aerospace, defence and security sectors.
"Western Canada's dynamic and growing aerospace, defence and security companies play a vital role in creating high-value jobs while supporting economic growth and long-term prosperity in our communities," said Minister Yelich. "Investing in innovation and creating new business opportunities for these companies today will mean a stronger and more competitive industry in the future."
The symposium hosts various business-to-business sessions that are expected to facilitate new connections between local defence contractors and major manufacturers in the aerospace, defence and security sectors.
"Through our support for initiatives such as WESTDEF, our Government is showcasing Western Canada's expertise in the development of new technologies and applications for these sectors, while also linking western Canadian companies with promising new commercial opportunities," added Minister Yelich.
As one of Canada's largest defence and security conferences, WESTDEF brings together representatives from across industry and government, including national and international buyers, policy makers, suppliers and end users. The two-day symposium features activities such as keynote addresses, panel discussions, information sessions, industry tours, displays, and networking events.
