WheelTug Releases Test Video of Electric Drive System on Boeing 737NG
(firmenpresse) - FARNBOROUGH, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 07/06/12 -- WheelTug plc released video footage of the installation and test of the first in-wheel WheelTug® electric drive system. During testing on a 737-700, pilots were able to push the aircraft back and taxi, without waiting for a tug or powering up the engines. Pilots moved the plane through motors in the nosewheel powered solely by the aircraft's APU.
"We're proud that we're ready to enter the final stretch of system specification, leading to certification and commercial deployment," said Isaiah Cox, WheelTug's CEO. He notes that, "a recent study sponsored by the Wall Street Journal in conjunction with Oliver Wyman and US Airways, showed industry net profit of less than $164 per flight. Thus, WheelTug's projected net savings to airlines of over $200 per flight has the potential to dramatically increase airline profitability."
The four day 'M1' system test at Prague Ruzyne Airport included system performance on all pavement types as well as wet and oil-slicked tarmac. The WheelTug under test was a pre-certification version and represents completion of an important step in the development program; the production version is designed to include numerous improvements.

The tests were undertaken by the WheelTug team including key partners Endeavor Analysis, ICE Corp., Co-Operative Industries and Dynetic Systems. Tests were hosted by Prague Airport and ABS Jets, with the aircraft provided by Germania.
After meeting the latest test milestone, WheelTug remains on target for Entry Into Service (EIS) on Boeing 737NG and A320 family of aircraft beginning in 2013. Over two hundred WheelTug delivery slots have already been reserved by airlines.
WheelTug invites interested parties to visit its booth at the Farnborough International Airshow booth in Hall 4, A13. The Airshow exhibit runs from 9-13 July.
