Campuses Recognized at Higher Education Sustainability Conference

(firmenpresse) - BOSTON, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 07/05/12 -- , Inc. (NASDAQ: ENOC), a leading provider of energy management applications for the smart grid, today announced that two of its customers, the University of California, San Diego and California State University, San Marcos were honored at the 2012 Higher Education Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Best Practice Awards. The universities deployed EnerNOC's EfficiencySMARTâ„¢ technology and commissioning services to help identify and implement the energy efficiency measures associated with each award.

"These two universities have experienced first-hand the proven value of energy efficiency, and I'm delighted that they are being recognized for the initiative they've taken," said Tim Healy, Chairman and CEO of EnerNOC. "We are proud to be providing energy efficiency software and services that contribute to their success in this realm."

Best Practices Award is for the HVAC Retrofit/Monitoring-Based Commissioning category, awarded to the largest building on campus, Geisel Library. UC San Diego's control system was upgraded and high efficiency motors and VFDs were installed on all air handlers. The new system has allowed fan speed to decrease while still meeting loads of the building and maintaining low relative humidity. The system has shown impressive energy savings with a 25% decrease in electricity usage, a 17% decrease in chilled water usage, and a 23% decrease in hot water usage. This installation is in conjunction with a Monitoring-Based Commissioning (MBCx) project to maximize energy savings and occupant comfort.

Best Practices Award is for the Monitoring-Based Commissioning of its Kellogg Library, an eight year-old, 200,000 square foot building. Meters were installed on electricity, chilled water, and hot water lines supplying the building. The MBCx effort identified failed dampers and actuators, miscalibrated sensors, and inefficient control sequences. The correction of these problems reduced electricity use by 25% and gas use by nearly 50%, resulting in an annual savings of $80,000. The incentive received from the Best Practice Awards' Energy Efficiency Partnership Program paid for nearly half of the cost of the MBCx project. Says Ed Johnson, California State University, San Marcos' Director of Sustainability and Utility Services, "Campus HVAC systems are complex and expensive to run. Our goal with the MBCx program and EnerNOC's Insight Control software is to continuously keep our buildings running at their optimum efficiency, thus saving precious energy and dollars while maintaining maximum comfort and increasing reliability."

EnerNOC was recently awarded its 105th MBCx project for UC and CSU. Within the last four years, six of those projects have been recognized with a Best Practice Award including the San Diego State University Chemical Sciences Laboratory, CSU San Bernardino's Chemical Sciences Building, CSU Chico's Yolo Hall and Student Union, UC Davis' Dutton Hall, and Foothill De Anza CCC's Mediated Learning Center.

The 2012 Best Practice Awards Competition for the Energy Efficiency Partnership Program seeks to highlight the achievements that California State University, University of California, and California Community College campuses have made through innovative and effective energy efficiency projects and sustainable operations.
