(firmenpresse) - ESQUIMALT, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 07/03/12 -- Her Majesty's Canadian Ship (HMCS) Regina departs Esquimalt today at 11 a.m. for the Arabian Sea region. HMCS Regina will replace HMCS Charlottetown on Operation Artemis, Canada's contribution to Combined Task Force 150 (CTF 150) to conduct maritime security operations in the Arabian Sea region.
"HMCS Regina's deployment to the Arabian Sea demonstrates the steadfast commitment of Canada to international maritime security," said the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence. "Our sailors have done excellent work promoting peace and security in the region's waters. I have every confidence that the men and women of HMCS Regina will continue to project the best of Canadian leadership"
Rear-Admiral Bill Truelove, Commander Maritime Forces Pacific (Royal Canadian Navy), received the salute after the ship sailed past the saluting dais at Duntze Head. "The men and women of HMCS Regina are highly-trained professionals and are more than capable to take on the challenges that await them on their deployment," said Rear-Admiral Truelove, who became Commander MARPAC on 4 June 2012.
HMCS Regina is a Halifax Class frigate with a crew of 225 personnel, and has an embarked CH-124 Sea King Helicopter detachment from 443 Maritime Helicopter Squadron, the West Coast operational Sea King squadron located in Patricia Bay, Victoria.

The deployment of HMCS Regina to CTF 150 contributes significantly to an important ongoing international maritime security operation, and provides the CF with the situational awareness required to rapidly respond to future crises as directed by the Government of Canada.
